Three years ago I was studying Bachelor of Education (Primary)/ Bachelor of Applied Science in Disability at RMIT University at Bundoora, Melbourne. That was three years ago. During my three years hiatus from uni, I worked like no tomorrow. Sometimes working 7 days straight, jumping from one job to another. It wasn’t exactly ideal but it definitely gave me some time to reconsider if I wanted to finish my degrees off (I only had half a year to go) or study something completely new.
I had a brief moment to myself at one point, to just go back and finish it but it was my total downward spiral of my depression in the first place. I will talk more of it when I ever get the chance to “stop taking my anti-depressants” at some point, in terms of how I got into that position in the first place. Ideally, I would love to stop taking them this year but it seems quite difficult according to doctors at this rate. I do like proving people wrong though. 🤓
After three years of figuring out whether I should study or not, I talked to my penpal inmate, Brandon Burnett, about my options and then it hit me, “I want to study something in the justice system!”. It had always peaked my interest and why not? I do like the occasional crime documentary every once in a while and I spoke to a few American penpal inmates about their prison life and some of them are doing quite well, unlike some of the movie references that were shown in pop culture. But there is a bit of an issue. I’m not physically comfortable to go into uni.
The idea of studying is quite exciting but… what if I suffer another panic attack? And then everyone looks at me as “oh-she’s-that-girl”. So, online studying seems ideal.
Long story short, I AM STUDYING!
I’m studying Bachelor of Social Studies Majoring in Criminology at Swinburne University (online). I guess in a sense, Brandon was my reason behind studying this course. I haven’t told him that because I don’t want him to have a big head but I did mentioned to him that he is crazy stupid for being in prison in the first place. That being said, I like working with the crazies
