8. Go to the movies alone

Going to the movies alone was not only strange for the first time but also very exciting. It wasn’t just because I was alone with my thoughts and anticipation but more of the fact I didn’t feel the need to entertain or engage myself with another person. I realised that it was okay to truly appreciate my independence and that it is sometimes okay to just enjoy yourself.

Lining up was daunting because I was amongst a group of kids, couples and families so surely someone can spot the creep that is watching the movies alone but it was different when I got to the front of the queue. Somehow my anxiety kind of disappeared. I don’t know them and why should I care? I should only care about me and only me at this point in time… And then I bumped into my cousin with her kids. It phase me for a bit but not enough to stray away from my original plan; that is, to watch a movie alone.

I managed to pick Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle the movie and proceed to make my way to the cinema. It was strange at first to plop my butt down on the seat with a bunch of strangers sitting next to me but I got comfortable quickly and laugh my obnoxious laugh away (I apologise if my laugh was a disturbance to anyone who unfortunately had to hear it).

A number of my friends mentioned that they done this before and well, some haven’t. I say do it because I felt liberated, independent and stress-free. It might be strange at first but honestly, you will learn to enjoy it as time goes by and enjoy the movie a lot more.
